Hiring for the past month does not meet expectations.
The Department of Labor released its monthly jobs report on Friday, detailing the state of the U.S. job market. The report detailed an increase of 235,000 new jobs in the month of August. The gains were well below the nearly one million new jobs that were added in the months of June and July. The slowdown is being attributed to the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19 and new restrictions in certain municipalities.
The department report also detailed that job openings remain at record levels. Some have suggested that employers are not offering the necessary incentives and health protections to entice workers to fill the positions available. The national unemployment rate decreased to 5.2% last month, regardless of the weak jobs numbers.
